Following Microsoft's offer to buy Google, Google Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer David Drummond said, "Could Microsoft now attempt to exert the same sort of inappropriate and illegal influence over the Internet that it did with the PC?"
This comment, no doubt, was meant to conjure up images of "The Evil Empire", like that of Microsoft's bad reputation during the 1990's antitrust battles.
